Homeopathy is a natural medical science that treats illness by the stimulation of the body's own healing response. Homeopathy views the individual as a whole person. This means that the mental, emotional, physical and spiritual aspects of each person are considered when the homeopath chooses a remedy (remedies are the “medicine” of homeopathy). This also means that the remedies stimulate healing on all of the above levels.
Homeopathy is a safe, gentle and effective form of treatment during all stages of life, including pregnancy, birth and infancy. There are two ways that homeopathic remedies may be used. The first is the traditional method where you participate in a consultation to discover your constitutional remedy. A constitutional remedy is very specific to the individual and will work to improve health on all levels, as well as for most acute situations. Many people say that they feel better after a consultation because they have truly been heard and all of their symptoms were taken into account. The second method is to suggest a general remedy to treat an acute situation. General remedies are ones that are known to help many people with a common symptom. This can be used to help with cold or flu symptoms, to assist in labor and childbirth and in many other situations. Using general remedies may be difficult unless you consult a homeopath. Giving your body a remedy that it does not need may cause you to feel worse or develop new symptoms. Having a constitutional remedy, with the option to use general remedies if needed, is the most effective approach. Again, acute remedies may be used effectively, but the results are not typically as curative and the effects are not as long-lasting as with a constitutional remedy. If the mother has a constitutional remedy that works for her, this remedy will also work for her newborn child/infant should it be needed.
Homeopathy may be used with traditional medical care and with other non-traditional treatments, (such as chiropractic care, herbs, etc.). For women, homeopathy can assist with pre-conception health, fertility, pregnancy care, labor and birthing, nursing, postpartum care, etc. For newborns and infants, homeopathy can help with general health and well-being, vaccine reactions, diaper rash, colic, teething and many other concerns. About me: I am a mother of two children (ages 2 and 5) and I have been using homeopathy for my children since birth. I am amazed at how gentle it works with them and how they recognize that it is helpful to them. Both as a homeopath and a homeopathic client, I am constantly grateful for the healing this method provides and the comfort and growth that come from true health and well-being.
My background, in addition to homeopathy, includes social work with families, working with stones for healing and various other types of energy work and being a member of ICAN of Syracuse (International Cesarean Awareness Network).
My favorite activities are being outside, working with homeopathy/stones/energy, reading/writing and camping with my family. |
